Forms 1099 for payers
1099-NEC and 1099-MISC with an ITIN
Generate professional 1099 documents with ITIN recipient information. Preview your document before checkout.
- Recipient TIN shown as XXX-XX-5678
- Official IRS form editions
- From $9.99 per recipient
Why customers choose it
ITIN in the recipient's TIN box
Choose ITIN as the recipient's taxpayer ID type and it prints in the recipient's TIN box, the same box that holds an SSN or an EIN.
Truncated as IRS rules allow
Recipient copies show XXX-XX-5678. IRS rules let filers mask the first five digits on payee statements, and your own file copy (Copy 1) keeps the full number when you enter all nine digits.
Official form editions
We fill the official IRS form edition for the tax year: recipient Copies B and 2 to furnish, plus copies for your records.
Every recipient, one checkout
Batch several recipients, mix 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC, and add pay stubs or contractor statements to the same order. One payment, no account.
How it works
Enter payer and recipients
Add your business as the payer, then each recipient's name, address and taxpayer ID from their Form W-9, with the year's amounts from your records.
Review every box
The free preview shows each form box by box, including the truncated TIN, so you can catch a typo before you buy.
Download and furnish

How an ITIN fits on Form 1099
Forms 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC identify each recipient by taxpayer identification number (TIN). According to the IRS, the TIN for an individual recipient is an SSN, ITIN or ATIN, and for other recipients, such as corporations, partnerships and estates, it's the EIN. An ITIN goes in the same recipient's TIN box as any of them.
An ITIN is nine digits, begins with 9 and is formatted like an SSN (NNN-NN-NNNN), so it prints in the same pattern. What changes from form to form is the payment: Form 1099-NEC reports nonemployee compensation, such as fees for a contractor's services, while Form 1099-MISC covers payments such as rents, royalties, and prizes and awards that aren't for services.
Collecting the number on Form W-9
Payers usually collect a recipient's TIN on Form W-9. Individuals who have an ITIN provide it there, in Part I, in the entry space for the Social Security number. The recipient gives the completed form to you; it isn't sent to the IRS.
Keep each W-9 with your records. The name and number on your 1099 should match it, and you will need the full number to file Copy A. If a payee is a foreign person, the IRS suggests requesting the appropriate Form W-8 instead; our page on contractor statements for foreign workers covers that side.
What truncation allows, and what it doesn't
IRS rules let filers truncate a payee's TIN (SSN, ITIN, ATIN or EIN) on most payee statements by replacing the first five digits with asterisks or Xs. Our recipient copies use that format, XXX-XX-5678, and only the last four digits ever leave your browser.
Two limits apply. A filer may not truncate a payee's TIN on any form filed with the IRS, so Copy A always carries the full number. And a payer's own TIN may never be truncated, so your TIN prints in full in the payer's box.
What we prepare, and what you file
We prepare the copies you furnish and keep: recipient Copies B and 2, plus copies for your records, on the official IRS form edition for the tax year. A 1099-NEC is $9.99 per recipient and a 1099-MISC is $12.99, and you can mix both in one checkout.
PayStubShop doesn't file anything with the IRS and doesn't produce Copy A. You file Copy A yourself, for example online through the IRS's free IRIS portal, using the full TIN from the recipient's W-9. Our 1099-NEC generator guide covers thresholds, deadlines and filing in detail.
Before you start
Gather these before you begin:
- Your business name, address and TIN as the payer
- Each recipient's legal name, address and TIN, from their Form W-9
- The year's total paid to each recipient, from your payment records
- Which form fits each payment: 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC
| Form and field | IDs it takes | Full or truncated |
|---|---|---|
| Form W-9, Part I: Social security number | SSN, or ITIN for individuals who have one | Full number; the form goes to the payer, not the IRS |
| Form W-9, Part I: Employer identification number | EIN | Full number; the form goes to the payer, not the IRS |
| Form 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC: recipient's TIN on recipient copies | SSN, ITIN, ATIN or EIN | May be truncated, as XXX-XX-5678 |
| Form 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC: recipient's TIN on Copy A | SSN, ITIN, ATIN or EIN | Full number; truncation not allowed |
| Form 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC: payer's TIN | The payer's own TIN | Full number on every copy |
Questions, answered
Can a 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC show an ITIN?
Yes. The IRS lists the ITIN as a TIN for individual recipients, alongside the SSN and ATIN. Choose ITIN as the recipient's taxpayer ID type and it prints in the recipient's TIN box, truncated to XXX-XX-5678 on recipient copies.
Why does the recipient's TIN show only the last four digits?
IRS rules allow filers to truncate a payee's TIN on payee statements by masking the first five digits, which protects your recipient's number. Truncation isn't allowed on Copy A, the copy filed with the IRS.
Do I need the recipient's full ITIN?
Not for the recipient copies: type the full number or just the last four digits, and recipient copies print only the last four. With all nine digits, your file copy (Copy 1) shows the full number. To file Copy A with the IRS you'll need the full number, so keep the recipient's Form W-9 on file.
Do you file my 1099s with the IRS?
No. PayStubShop doesn't file anything with the IRS and doesn't produce Copy A. You get recipient copies to furnish and copies for your records, then file Copy A yourself, for example through the IRS's free IRIS portal.
Should I use a 1099-NEC or a 1099-MISC?
Form 1099-NEC reports nonemployee compensation, such as fees paid to an independent contractor for services. Form 1099-MISC covers other payments, such as rents, royalties, and prizes and awards that aren't for services. Both take an ITIN the same way.
How much does a 1099 with an ITIN cost?
The same as any 1099: $9.99 per 1099-NEC recipient and $12.99 per 1099-MISC recipient. Batch several recipients in one order and pay once, with no account or subscription.
Can I correct a 1099 after I buy it?
Purchased documents are final, so check every box in the free preview first. If you need a different form, you can start a new order anytime. If you've already furnished and filed a form and then find an error, the official fix is a corrected 1099 filed with the IRS.
