How Much Does a Pay Stub Cost in 2026?

What a pay stub costs in 2026: per-stub pricing, add-on fees, percent-off list prices and subscriptions explained, with a dated checkout and our price.

Updated November 1, 2026 · Reviewed against official sources

The price of a pay stub depends less on the stub than on how the seller structures the bill: per-stub prices, add-ons, discounts from a list price, or a monthly plan. Here's how the common structures work, what a real checkout looked like on a specific date, and what you pay with us.

The four pricing structures you'll run into

1. Per-stub pricing. You pay for each stub. Many sellers lower the per-stub price as you buy more, which matters if you need a run of biweekly stubs.

2. Per-stub pricing plus add-ons. The headline price covers the stub, and extras are itemized separately: a direct deposit slip, a different template, a rush option, or corrections after purchase. The add-ons are where totals grow.

3. List price with a standing discount. Some checkouts show a high list price crossed out with a large percentage off. The discount is part of the presentation; the number that matters is the final total.

4. Monthly payroll software. Payroll services usually charge a monthly base fee plus a fee per employee. That buys more than stubs: tax deposits, quarterly filings, W-2 filing with the SSA. If you need those, it may be the right tool. If you need accurate stubs for one person or a small team, a monthly plan can cost more than the stubs themselves.

A real checkout, observed 31 October 2026

On 31 October 2026 we went through a PayStubs.net checkout for four pay stubs with direct deposit slips:

Line Amount
Pay stub, $9.99 × 4 $39.96
Direct deposit slip add-on, $2.99 × 4 $11.96
Total charged $51.92
Shown as 50% off $103.88

On 30 October 2026 the same site's paid price for a W-2 was $19.99. Prices change, so treat these as dated observations rather than current quotes. Our PayStubShop vs. PayStubs.net comparison covers the two side by side.

What the same order costs here

PayStubShop
4 pay stubs $25.96 total ($6.49 each)
Direct deposit advice slips Included free with every stub
Corrections within 30 days Free
Re-downloads for 90 days Free
Account or subscription None
W-2 recipient copies $14.99 per employee

Our price ladder is built for runs of stubs. If you have four and need a fifth, adding it costs $1.99, and you pay the same whether you choose five up front or add the fifth later. The full ladder up to 26 stubs is on our pricing page.

What a year of stubs costs, by pay frequency

How often you're paid decides how many stubs a year you need, which matters more than the single-stub price if you need stubs regularly:

Pay frequency Stubs per year With PayStubShop
Monthly 12 One order of 12: $56.14
Semimonthly 24 One order of 24: $93.58
Biweekly 26 One order of 26: $99.84
Weekly 52 Two orders of 26

You rarely need a full year at once. Applications usually ask for the last month or two, which means two to four biweekly stubs, and small employers usually buy per pay date. The table simply shows how the ladder treats larger runs.

Hidden costs to check before you pay

Use this list on any pay stub checkout, ours included:

  • Is the direct deposit slip included or a per-stub add-on?
  • Do corrections cost money? A typo found after purchase shouldn't mean buying the stub again.
  • Can you re-download later, and for how long?
  • Is there a subscription, trial or auto-renewal attached to a one-time purchase?
  • Are taxes actually calculated, or are you typing them in? A cheap stub with guessed withholding can cost you an application.
  • Is the refund policy clear — and can you see every number before paying so there are no surprises?

The cost of a stub that's wrong

The real expense of a bad stub is rarely the price. It's what happens when someone checks it. Landlords compare stubs with bank deposits. Mortgage lenders compare year-to-date earnings with W-2s and IRS transcripts, and verify employment with the employer. A stub whose YTD doesn't add up, whose Social Security doesn't equal 6.2% of wages, or whose net pay doesn't match the deposit gets questioned, and fixing that takes longer than building it right.

That's why we show the full math on a free preview before you pay, and why corrections are free for 30 days.

When you shouldn't buy a stub at all

  • Your employer issues stubs. Ask payroll or HR for copies. Many states require employers to provide them and to keep copies for years: three in California, six in New York.
  • You need payroll filed, not just documented. A stub doesn't deposit taxes or file returns. Use payroll software or an accountant for that, and use stubs for documentation.

For everything else, build it on the free preview, check every line, and pay once.

Frequently asked questions

How much does one pay stub cost at PayStubShop?

$6.99 for one stub, including the direct deposit advice slip. The price per stub drops as you add more to the order: four cost $25.96 and 26 cost $99.84.

Why do some sites show a pay stub at 50% off?

Some generators display a higher list price with a standing discount. On 31 October 2026 we observed a PayStubs.net checkout showing four stubs with direct deposit slips at $51.92, presented as 50% off $103.88. Compare the final total you pay, not the discount.

Is the direct deposit slip extra?

Not with us. It's included free with every pay stub. Elsewhere it can be a per-stub add-on, so check the line items before you pay.

Can I get a pay stub for free?

If your employer already issues stubs, ask payroll or HR for a copy; that costs nothing. Our live preview is also free, and you only pay to download the finished file.
