ThePayStubs sells pay stubs, W-2s and 1099 forms online. We walked through its stub, W-2 and 1099-NEC flows on 1 November 2026 up to the payment form, without buying. Everything below about ThePayStubs is a dated observation from that session. Prices and features change, so check the live site before deciding. The table above shows the figures side by side.

ThePayStubs' slip add-on was lower than the $2.99 we observed at PayStubs.net and PayStubCreator the same morning. Its stub ladder was otherwise identical to theirs: $11.99 for one stub, $45.54 for six, $65.90 for ten, $76.68 for twelve and $99.84 for twenty-six, all excluding the slip. Our ladder runs from $6.99 for one to $99.84 for twenty-six, slip included.

A note on the 1099-NEC threshold. On 1 November 2026, ThePayStubs' 1099-NEC information page still described the $600 filing threshold. For payments made in 2026, the IRS threshold for nonemployee compensation is $2,000. Whichever site you use, check the threshold against the current IRS instructions before buying forms you may not need. Our 1099-NEC generator page shows which payees need one.

Differences in how the two work

Preview. Our watermarked preview shows every number: taxes, deductions, net pay and YTD. In our session, ThePayStubs' stub preview, like the other two sites' we observed, blurred the current deduction amounts in the preview image. Its W-2 and 1099 previews were readable under a watermark.

Text alerts. ThePayStubs' form offered an optional mobile number for a text when the stubs are ready. We send an email link with every order, and downloads are instant.

Getting your files again. Our order lookup lets you re-download or resend for 90 days using your email and order number, or a one-time email link. In our session, ThePayStubs' /resend-order page returned "page not found."

Refunds and corrections. ThePayStubs' refund policy page described a 30-day window for refund requests, processed in 24–48 hours. Ours: all sales are final because every number is visible in the free preview before you pay — and if we made an error, a document didn't arrive, or you were charged incorrectly, contact support within 14 days and we'll correct or refund it. Typos are fixed free for 30 days.

Pricing visibility. We publish every price on our pricing page. In our session, ThePayStubs had no pricing page, and the first price appeared after submitting the full stub form.

ThePayStubs had the lowest slip add-on of the three sites we observed, and more templates and frequencies than we offer. We include the slip with every stub, show the full math before payment, publish our prices, and put stubs and year-end forms in one checkout.
